The Chinese Repeating Crossbow

Stone describes the "Chu-Ko-Nu" in his famous Glossary thus. "The bolts are contained in a sliding box on top of the stock and moved by a lever pivoted to both. Throwing the lever forward and back draws the bow, places a bolt in position, and discharges the weapon. The Chinese used this weapon as late as the Chinese-Japanese War of 1894-5. It is a well made and practical weapon." Payne-Galwey devotes a full chapter to it.
